The CGEM Label for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a formal recognition of Moroccan companies’ commitment to observing, defending, and promoting universal principles of social responsibility and sustainable development in their economic activities and social relationships.
A CSR Label Commission was established by the CGEM Board of Directors on September 28, 2006. Through this initiative, CGEM aims to promote factors that enhance the attractiveness of productive investment.
For companies, CGEM refers to the definition provided by the ISO 26000 standard, which outlines the guidelines for organizational social responsibility:
‘The responsibility of an organization for the impacts of its decisions and activities on society and the environment, demonstrated by ethical and transparent behavior that:
- Contributes to sustainable development, including the health and well-being of society;
- Takes into account stakeholder expectations;
- Complies with applicable laws while being consistent with international standards of conduct;
- Is integrated throughout the organization and implemented in its relationships.’
This label encompasses nine key areas:
- Respecting human rights
- Continuously improving employment conditions, working conditions, and professional relationships
- Protecting the environment
- Preventing corruption
- Respecting fair competition rules
- Strengthening corporate governance transparency
- Respecting the interests of clients and consumers
- Promoting social responsibility among suppliers and subcontractors
- Enhancing societal engagement
To february 2024, the Label has been awarded to 124 companies, 37% of which are SMEs.
